Ethics in Animal Assisted Practices

Description

Objectives: -Be able to write an Emotional Support Animal letter, and understand when this is appropriate. -Learn ethical approaches in animal assisted interventions and animal presence in the therapy environment. Presenter Bio: Lisa Peacock McLaughlin, LMFT began her life with a love for animals.  She worked at 2 different zoological organizations before she turned 25 and started her MFT program; which she worked with the teaching staff to include animal assisted interventions.  She has been involving animals in her treatment since 2003 and has taught and supervised more than 50 grad students in the practice.  She has spoken at national conferences about the inclusion of animals in counseling, and continues to find ways to bring animals into the lives of her patients.  She runs a private practice in Fairview, Oregon where she currently has 7 animals present with clients.  She also supervises associates to prepare them for licensure and train the next generation with animal assisted tools.
