Description
Objective 1: Participants will identify the professional ethics surrounding supporting autistic, kinky, and a-spec clients. Objective 2: Participants will design a plan for continued education and honing their skills in regards to these intersecting populations. Course Description: Join Dr. Kade Sharp (he/they), a mental health professional with lived experience, as he explains what research tells us about the intersection of kinky folks who are autistic and are somewhere on the asexual/aromantic spectrum… and how to apply that knowledge to supporting our therapy clients! This presentation will cover foundational knowledge, specific professional counseling ethics, and relevant clinical considerations that are important when supporting these intersecting populations. Bio: Dr. Kade Sharp (he/they) is an autistic transgender Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker practicing in Richland, Washington at Spectrum Counseling, his private practice. He supports primarily queer & trans autistic & AuDHD therapy clients, supervises clinicians working toward licensure, and provides case consultation for colleagues. Kade is also a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, a Child Mental Health Specialist, and a Certified Sex Therapist. He has his PhD in Clinical Sexology through Modern Sex Therapy Institutes. Kade has had a clinical focus on working with autistic and transgender folks of all ages, especially those with anxiety challenges, since 2015. He has given public presentations on LGBTQIA2+ topics since 2014 and authored two textbook chapters on Play Therapy with trans & non-binary youth. Previously, he has held roles as a Wraparound with Intensive Services Mental Health Therapist and Program Supervisor. His volunteer work since 2012 has been with local LGBTQ+ youth centers, Pride organizations, the Diversity Equity Inclusion team at a local school district, and serving on the WA state chapter of the Association for Play Therapy board.
