Objectives: -Develop and Deepen Understanding – Participants will deepen understanding the role spirituality can play in clients’ coping, resilience, and meaning-making, and understand the potential risks of avoiding or overlooking it in therapy. -Develop and Strengthen Competence – Participants will learn practical strategies for initiating and navigating conversations about spirituality in a clinically sensitive and ethically appropriate way. -Enhance integration – Participants will identify ways to incorporate clients’ spiritual values and practices into treatment planning to support holistic healing and strengthen the therapeutic alliance. Course Description: This presentation explores the vital role of spirituality in the therapeutic process, offering therapists practical ways to integrate clients’ spiritual beliefs and practices into treatment from a transformational perspective. Participants will examine how spirituality can serve as a source of resilience, meaning-making, and healing, while also learning to navigate potential challenges when addressing spiritual concerns in therapy. Therapists will be equipped with greater confidence and sensitivity in engaging with clients’ spiritual lives, ultimately deepening the therapeutic relationship and fostering holistic growth. Kathleen M Adams, PhD, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Clinical Supervisor. After a fulfilling career as an LMFT, she returned to school for her PhD in Human Development and Family Studies, completed in 2001. She taught and mentored MFT students for 20 years as a university professor and clinical supervisor, most recently creating and directing the Marriage and Family Therapy master’s program at Oregon Institute of Technology. Currently semi-retired, she has a private practice in Klamath Falls, OR providing therapy, clinical supervision, case consultation and training. This is part of the Bite-Sized CE Series.
