Increasing Clinician Comfort with Suicide Risk Assessment and Interventions

Description Participants will:

a) Learn about risk and protective factors for suicide including populations at higher risk

b) Review tools to quickly assess a client’s risk

c) Determine when to refer to higher level of care or involve a crisis response team

d) Increase understanding of how to follow up after suicidal episode

Bio: Britt Urban is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Oregon who has nearly 16 years of experience working with both youth and adults in diverse contexts. Her professional focus has been supporting trauma survivors and other vulnerable populations, including refugees and immigrants, domestic violence and sexual assault survivors, and those struggling with mental health and substance use challenges. Her work as a mental health crisis responder in recent years has provided her with the knowledge and skills to effectively respond to individuals experiencing suicidal and/or homicidal ideation, and to de-escalate a variety of crisis situations.
