Description

Objectives
-To integrate postpartum-specific risk factors (e.g., intrusive thoughts, bonding difficulties, cultural pressures).
-To create clear referral pathways for women identified at moderate-to-high risk.

Description
Suicide is a leading yet under-recognized cause of maternal mortality. Postpartum women experience unique biological, psychological, and social stressors that may increase their risk, yet routine assessments often overlook warning signs specific to this population. This one-hour live presentation will explore evidence-based strategies for suicide risk assessment in postpartum women, highlight postpartum-specific vulnerabilities, and introduce practical approaches for clinicians to implement in real-world settings. The session will emphasize culturally responsive, trauma-informed care and provide tools for both early identification and referral.
