Description
Description Many therapists feel confident recognizing classic risk factors for suicide, but what happens when the warning signs are masked by success? This training focuses on the unique presentation of suicidality in high-functioning individuals: professionals, gifted teens, medical providers, parents, and caregivers who often appear “fine” while silently suffering. We’ll explore how perfectionism, high social masking, and internalized pressure distort traditional suicide risk assessment methods and what clinicians can do to better identify and respond to hidden risk. Objectives -Identify at least three common ways high-functioning clients mask suicidal ideation. -Adapt suicide risk assessment tools to better suit high-achieving clients. -Integrate protective factor language and values-based interventions to support treatment planning. Bio Since obtaining licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2006, Jennifer Jim’s professional journey has spanned diverse settings, including outpatient clinics, community mental health, and forensics. In her current role, she has a private practice specializing in assisting adults dealing with ADHD, anxiety, and trauma using ACT, ART, CBT, and IFS. Jennifer sees supervision as holding up a mirror to the intricate work conducted in therapy sessions. It involves creating a space where reflection and growth occur in tandem, not just for the sake of clients but also for the professional journey. She believes in the power of this parallel process, where mental wellness is not merely a goal for clients but a shared mission, deeply embedded in the way professionals grow and develop.
