Description

Objectives 1: Identify and Describe the Two Neurobiological Paths to HPA-Axis and the Appropriate Responses to Each to Turn Down the Heat (Somatic Approach) 2: Create More Accurate and Coherent Cognitive Narratives to Prevent Recurring Suicidal Ideation (Cognitive Approach) Course Description In 2016, Researchers in China found the “Suicide Circuit” in the brain, which is a mix of emotion and cognitive-based regions. We know that suicidal ideation is a multi-layered issue, including social, historical, systemic, and biological factors. Thanks to the contributions of modern neuroscience in general and Interpersonal Neurobiology specifically, we now have a framework for understanding the combined cognitive and somatic approaches that may reduce or eliminate suicidal ideation. In this course, you will learn the two paths (cognitive and somatic) to the brain’s activation system and an easily accessible therapeutic activity you can use to help the client make better use of their regulating and narrative systems to mindfully rewrite their historical narratives, thereby eliminating the fuel sent to the “Suicide Circuit.” This approach can be used in both treatment and prevention plans and is both technical enough to give it veracity and simple enough that literally any helping professional can use it. Presenter Bio Hannah Smith, MA, LMHC, CGP (She/Her), is the founder of Potential Finders Network & The Village Education & Growth Collective. She is an author, consultant, international trauma educator with specialist certifications in Group Therapy and Interpersonal Neurobiology. She has developed an engaging presentation style that challenges attendees to stretch while making the learning of difficult information both accessible and fun!
