Objectives: -Participants will review learning theories in order to apply concepts to therapy modalities for the purpose of making therapy more accessible for neurodivergent individuals and other diverse learners. -Participants will explore specific adaptations that research has shown increases the accessibility of CBT for neurodivergent individuals and other diverse learners, and discuss how these adaptations can be modified for other modalities. Participants will also explore gaps in the research and resources for continued study. Course Description: Dr. Jennifer Cork will review information mental health professionals need to know in order to adapt current therapy modalities and make them more accessible for neurodivergent individuals and other diverse learners. This training will include a review of learning theories and educational tools and concepts that can be utilized to modify therapy modalities to better meet the mental health needs of this community. Dr. Cork will review what adaptation have been shown to increase the accessibility of CBT and how these modifications can be utilized for other modalities. The training will also address gaps in the research, as well as resources for continued study. Bio: Dr. Jennifer Cork is a doctor of social work (DSW) and licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), specializing in the treatment of neurodivergent individuals with co-occurring mental health diagnoses. Jennifer is a late-diagnosed autistic adult and has more than 20 years’ experience working with individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities. She has worked in the education, disability, and mental health settings. She has also written a therapy book called, What’s Your Anxiety Level? Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Neurodivergent Children and Teens with Co-Occurring Anxiety Disorders, which comes out in November of 2025. She has a certificate in disability studies from Eastern Washington University, is a certified autism specialist (CAS), and ADHD-certified clinical service provider (ADHD-CCSP). Increasing mental health awareness and access to mental healthcare for the neurodivergent community is one of her passions. Besides education and advocacy work, Jennifer enjoys trips to the coast, hikes with her family, cooking, baking, and is an avid reader.
