Description
Description
Suicide risk assessment requires both clinical skill and emotional steadiness. In this training, you’ll learn evidence-informed strategies for assessing suicide risk while recognizing how your own nervous system can influence clinical judgment. You’ll leave with practical tools to stay present, think clearly, and conduct compassionate, effective suicide assessments even in high-stakes conversations.
Objectives
1. Identify at least three signs that a clinician’s own nervous system is becoming activated during a suicide risk assessment and explain how this activation can influence clinical decision-making.
2. Demonstrate at least three strategies for staying psychologically present and grounded while conducting a suicide risk assessment, even when experiencing anxiety or uncertainty.
3. Apply a structured framework to conduct a suicide risk assessment that balances empathic connection, clinical curiosity, and evidence-informed decision-making.
