Description Crises don’t discriminate and affect us all. Individuals will often seek therapy when faced with a crisis whether on an individual, familial, and/or societal level. In this course, attendees will learn how to recognize when a crisis arises for clients and what to do in the moment. Attendees will also learn specific crisis intervention skills and explore what parts of a crisis plan may be most effective for clients. This course will also offer care recommendations for therapists after managing through a crisis.
Learning objectives:
Participants will learn the following:
Characteristics of a crisis state and how to assess and guide clients to safety
Crisis intervention skills to help manage clients in emergent crisis
Care recommendations for therapists especially once a crisis passes
Exploration of why traditional crisis plans may not be effective and what can help
Presenter bio:
Mariko “Mod” Ono, LCSW is a clinical social worker at Kaiser Permanente, where she has worked since 2005. She currently works full time at Kaiser Permanente NW, specializing in psychiatric ER crisis services, and is also an adjunct faculty instructor at Smith College School for Social Work since 2007.
