Description Boundaries in psychotherapy allow the professional relationship to deepen and ensure safety in the alliance. And like all relationships, they can be blurred, challenged, and at times, crossed with negative and lingering consequences. In this presentation, attendees will explore the definition of clinical boundaries and how to recognize what are crossings and what are violations. Other topics covered include cultural considerations in boundaries, how to navigate multiple relationships in therapy and community, and how to manage when boundaries have been crossed.

Learning objectives:

Participants will gain the following knowledge:
How to define and recognize the difference between boundary crossings and boundary violations
The ethical and clinical responsibilities of boundary violations in psychotherapy
Cultural considerations in boundary crossings
Recommendations in repairing boundary crossings
