Description
Description: Pain Reprocessing Therapy® is a new evidence-based treatment for certain types of chronic pain which retrains the brain to interpret and respond to signals from the body properly and break the cycle of chronic pain. Neuroplastic pain – that persists in the absence of physical injury – is the main target of PRT resulting in a significant reduction in pain symptoms and improved overall mental health. Some traditional pain relief techniques patients use reinforce the idea that the pain is dangerous and put further pressure on themselves to get better. There are five components to PRT: Psychoeducation, Evidence-gathering, Reappraising sensations as safe (both cognitively and somatically), Addressing other emotional threats, and gravitating to positive feelings and sensations. Objectives (participants will be able to): -Briefly describe the psychological principles and research underpinning PRT for neuroplastic pain; -describe in detail how each of the 5 components of PRT addresses the root cause of persistent pain syndromes, and -begin exploring applications of PRT in their practice with handouts and materials provided.
